In 2008, Troop 26 celebrates 75 years as a continuously
chartered Troop in the West Central Florida District. In that time,
we will celebrate the accomplishments of over 75 Eagle Scouts. Our
scout leaders will have served in every war since the Civil War;
the women of the troop have included those who strugged for women's
suffrage.
The prime heritage of Troop 26 is our Scout Hut. The
property was initially purchased for the Troop many years ago by
a group of scout leaders affiliated with Palm Harbor United Methodist
Church. At that time, the church was located across the street from
the Hut (in 1995, the church outgrew that location and relocated
to Belcher Rd.) The Scout Hut stands as a quiet testimony to the
endless hours of work and devotion by volunteers and supporters
who have changed lives for scouting. As friends of scouting, you
already know this.
Traditionally, funds to maintain and improve the Scout
Hut came from a portion of the money raised by the scouts' fundraising
efforts. In recognition of the Troop's 75th anniversary and to create
a capital improvement fund to support the Scout Hut, the Troop Committee
has elected to sponsor the Troop 26 Scout Hut Brick Campaign.
The campaign works like this:
The front entrance to the Hut was recently upgraded
including raising the front porch to the same level of the Hut slab,
covering the porch with decorative bricks, and installing benches.
The bricks are available for personalized engraving as a means of
raising funds for the Hut capital improvements. The brick campaign
is an ongoing program until all porch bricks are sold!
Funds from the Brick Campaign have been added to a
generous grant received from the Junior Women's League of Palm Harbor.
Commemorative bricks are available for $75.00 each.
We encourage our scouts, parents, leaders and community supporters
to take advantage of this opportunity to recognize a special scout
or other person in your life. Please print the order
form, complete your personalized text, and mail with your payment
to the address on the form. Or you can place your order online.
If you have any questions, feel free to contact committee chairman
Jeff Coleman.
Troop 26 is committed to our scouts and our community
and we appreciate your support of this effort!
